****We are singing the brain song at MMM 3/14! Come and watch us if you can :) |
With 4 weeks left until Spring break (who's counting) we are all taking a moment to think about what is 1 thing we can do to help improve the learning in our classroom. Is it using a level 1 voice at writers workshop? How about making sure your backpack, coat, and lunchbox are in your cubby and not on the floor Is it being focused on learning on the carpet? Is is showing the 4 pt check line as we walk out the door? Whatever your goal is, we are working hard to achieve it and set a new one. We build a classroom community by working hard on making sure our day runs smoothly. The ownership is on each one of us, everyday. These goals/classroom expectations have been going on all year, but this is the explicit teaching and accountability that we need to truly understand what it takes to work together as a learning community! The class helped me make a goal to help our learning too! If you haven't checked out your student's seesaw account yet, now is a great time! We have posted our goals there :)

Please remind your students to take the books out of their backpack and put them in the red wagon in the hallway to ensure they get checked in! |

QAE will be participating in World Read Aloud Day Wednesday, February 24th! Each QAE staff members has selected a book that they would like to read aloud that day. Change in morning routine! | Have you checked out your student's seesaw account? |
Please help us to establish and teach our Queen Anne Elementary School morning supervision guidelines! Our “Treehouse” teachers have noticed that there are more and more students entering the building well before the school day begins. Not only is it a student safety and supervision issue, but it also interferes with our teachers’ precious planning time before school. To help us improve this situation, this week, during classroom meetings, our teachers will remind students of the guidelines for morning supervision times. The guidelines are as follows: Students and families may enter the Treehouse at 9:25am. From 9:05am – 9:25am, students are only supervised on the playground (and, on very rainy days, in the cafeteria) by our morning supervision staff. Thank you for helping us to re-establish these guidelines– we appreciate it – and thank for your understanding and support of this important issue. ** This means that students will keep their backpacks and orange folders with them before 9:25. They can line them up on our line up spot of they want to go play without them. Please help me teach into this change in routine. | Follow our PBL journey, "how can we use our creativity to help!" I sent home another hand out with information on how you can access your student's account at home. This is a great opportunity for you to keep the learning conversations going at home! On Friday, we went "shopping" for materials we needed to make our ideas come to life! Unfortunately, I don't have all the materials they need for these amazing ideas. If your student came home with a piece of paper that listed a few materials they still need, please bring these materials to school on Monday. We will be starting our creation process (idea workshop) on Tuesday! |
Learning about the microscope!
We had a guest teacher this Friday, Masai's mom! Erica came into class and taught us all about the microscope and let us see some really cool Planarian! If you have never seen these guys before, check them out! They actually have little "eyes" which make them really cool for kids (and adults) to look at. The goals of the lesson were to understand the basics about the microscope and learn the concept of magnification. Here are a few fun facts about Planarian: - They have eyespots! - Eyespots are not as sophisticated as our eyes. They sense light but can't "see". - These worms have superhero powers: they can regenerate! (If only humans were that cool...but we're trying to learn! These guys are used toward stem cell research) Thanks Erica! | |
