Reminders for the week: - Please bring in a SNACK for your student everyday! We are having more and more students forgetting snack. Students still need a snack even if they are buying lunch :) - Our mini mid-winter break is fast approaching! There will be no school Feb 15th and 16th. Auction art projectThe QAE auction is fast approaching! Serena's family (Sharan and Matt) are working with our class to create an amazing piece of art that will be on sale that night! The piece will be centered around the word, "peace." Here is what the word piece means to us! We are looking for parent volunteers to come help our with this project on Thursday from 9:30-10:40 in our classroom. Please e-mail Carolyn Holt if you are interested! | Valentines Day at QAEValentines day is our last official class party day of the year! Our party planning committee is working hard to plan a fun Friday afternoon for us :) We do spend time in the morning as a class exchanging valentines. If your student chooses to bring valentines for the class, please make sure they have one for everybody. I also ask that no food/candy be attached to the valentine. We have a lot of food allergies in class and I would rather have the treats stay at home. Thanks for your understanding. Here is a list of all the first names in our class!

Learning about the microscope!
Sharing student learning with Seesaw! What a process this has been! A little evolution of sharing our learning through technology coming your way... For the first few years of QAE's inception, we decided that one of our core principles would be "we share are learning." At first, we started with Weebly (website creator) as a platform to post student work and keep track of all the amazing learning they were doing. We soon realized, that without 1:1 devices, this was being done primarily by teachers and was thus, not student driven. Last year, with a 1/2 a year's worth of 1:1 we started using Kidblog. Students were keeping evidence of their learning through pictures and videos on their iPad and then were able to share that evidence via kidblog to the rest of their class, families, and the world! For the most part, kidblog worked great. The problem was it's friendliness towards other creation based apps that we were using. Low and behold, uploading videos to kidblog proved to be more challenging than we would have liked. So much of kindergarten learning needs to be explained through verbal communication. Voice recordings over a photo or drawing are really helpful for getting student ideas across. With that brief history behind us, we are now forging ahead with a program called, "Seesaw." This online tool allows students to post words, pictures, and videos to share their learning! As an introducery lesson to seesaw, students used the Educreations app to make a short video with a little information about them. Those videos are the only post that has been made yet, stay tuned for more posts related to our PBL Project, "how can we use our creativity to help?" An informational flyer was sent home in orange folders on Friday that gives you access to your student's seesaw account for viewing. Here are a few tips from Seesaw for parents: 1. Be constructive! Learning a new skill is hard and we need your help. 2. Specific comments are best. Think about how you can add to the learning conversation. 3. In a group or ‘everyone’ post, please remember your comment is shared with everyone tagged - students and their parents. This is a great opportunity to lift up the whole class!
