We are learning about our brain to help us think learn how we learn and why we behave the way we do. We are focusing in on 3 specific areas of the brain; the prefrontal cortex, the amygdala, and the hippocampus. These parts of the brain involve thinking, learning, and feeling. This lasts the foundation for students to understand how their feelings arise and then how they can change what they do in response to that feeling.
We have some fun names for these 3 areas of the brain to help us remember what they are used for! - Prefrontal cortex: "The Wise leader." It helps us make good choices and pay attention - The amygdala: "The security guard." It helps warn us of danger, keeps us safe, and helps us express emotions like anger and fear. - The hippocampus: "The memory saver." It helps us store important information and bring it back when we need it. |
