We used our critical eyes this week and got out our purple pens to do some editing of our animal facts. We realized that these nonfiction books are meant to be shared so others can learn about our animals. In order for people to learn from our books, they have to be able to read our writing and understand what we are trying to teach them. We worked together in our groups to edit all the facts that we had gathered from books/videos so far. We re-stretched out words, looked at our animal word bank, and made sure our writing was easy to read with spaces and small letters. |
Once our facts were edited with our special purple pens, they were ready to be turned into yellow fact strips where we re-wrote our fact with handwriting that was easy to read! This step is an important one. We are really working hard to make our letters and writing readable by everyone. Slowing down the process re-writing before we do our final draft will help us pay attention to things like spaces, letter formation, and punctuation.
Our final step is fact pages to go in our nonfiction books. We worked really hard to re-write our newly edited facts with our best handwriting and to add a picture that would make sense with our fact. The animal groups are working hard to crank out pages that they are proud of and help make a book that we can all learn from.
